Welcome... the latest APB where you can find out more about the Werksan range of Olympic lifting equipment, and on the same theme, the re-opening of Holyhead and Anglesey Weightlifting Centre and their ambitions to raise medallists of the future. We’re also out and about on the exhibition trail over the next few months so check out where you can find us (which is Birmingham – twice!).
HAWC re-opened
Holyhead & Anglesey Weightlifting and Fitness Centre (HAWC) has recently re-opened its doors after a £300,000 refurbishment. The brainchild of Ray Williams, former Commonwealth Games Olympic Lifting gold medallist and current senior coach of the Welsh Weightlifting Federation, the facility is now fully equipped for elite performers, as well as potential stars of the future, and hopes to be used as an Olympic training base for the Albanian lifting squad for London 2012.
New fitness programmes aimed at juniors, women and girls have been set up as the centre plans to enlist 50 new junior members, 48 new senior members and train a number of new coaches.

Absolute Performance worked closely with Ray, also a former Captain in the Elite Army Physical Training Corps, throughout the refurbishment supplying a wide range of equipment including fixed resistance machines, free weights and cardio equipment with the centre piece being a bespoke functional training rig.
Ray tells us “The functional training rig has provided us with space saving flexibility. Absolute Performance manufactured it to our specification (size and colour) to suit our facility, critical when space is such a valuable asset.
“It will provide our athletes with a dedicated space for countless functional training exercises, and the great thing is that it enables athletes of all levels of ability to develop body strength using traditional bodyweight exercises, alongside the latest functional training accessories like suspension trainers, grapplers/landmines, battling ropes and dip bars.
HAWC star member, welterweight Gareth Evans, who trains with the GB Olympic squad in Leeds, was at the opening a couple of weeks ago, says “This really is a venue that is set up to produce top quality athletes who will promote weightlifting and north Wales in competitions around the world”
Werksan – High class lifting
With the rise in numbers of athletes incorporating Olympic lifting into their everyday training programmes, the demand for high quality lifting equipment is growing rapidly.
